Investigators with experience in policing or the public sector often find that moving into the private sector brings unexpected challenges. The skills feel like they should transfer, but the environment is different. Priorities shift, new legal and policy frameworks need to be understood, and investigations must be explained to audiences who think in different terms. Without the legal powers of policing, even the practical steps of running a case can feel unfamiliar.
For many, the world outside policing can also feel opaque while you’re still inside it. That makes it harder to apply for roles, present expertise confidently in interviews, and show how experience meets what organisations are looking for.
This course is led by two trainers who have successfully navigated that transition. Both began their careers as police officers before moving into senior investigation and integrity roles at organisations including Burberry, Oxfam, the BBC, and Transparency International; working in more the 40 countries between them. They now lead their own consultancies, supporting major organisations with investigations, integrity programmes, and training for workplace investigators.
The masterclass is designed to bridge the gap. Through realistic scenarios and open discussion, it equips participants to adapt their strengths to the demands of corporate, workplace, and safeguarding investigations, while developing the language and confidence to demonstrate expertise in new settings.
